In a panel moderated by Gregory Wilpert, Laura discusses the future of left media with Paul Jay of The Real News, Pablo Vivanco of teleSUR, and Priya Reddy of RT America.
The traditional media outlets of newspapers, television, and radio continue to become ever more centralized in ever fewer hands, restricting the diversity of information and opinion formation. The great hope once was that the internet would change all of this and initially it appeared to do so, with the proliferation of new media outlets. That initial celebration of media diversity has given way to a new centralization, where Google Facebook, Twitter, and Apple control practically the entire infrastructure for delivering information to the people. This panel aims to take a close look at the challenges and strategies of left media outlets, how they might overcome the monopolization of mass media and contribute to the creation of a new and truly democratic media system.
